Boys basketball:

Torrey Pines closed the deal on a perfect Palomar League season as the Falcons defeated Canyon Crest Academy, 73-44, in a regular season finale for both teams on Feb. 20.

Dominic Hovasse scored 21 points and had six assists and three steals to lead the Falcons.

Jackson Strong and Timmy Saunders added 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The victory followed a 78-35 league win against Rancho Bernardo two days earlier in which Hovasse led the Falcons with 15 points.

Saunders and Jackson Strong each added 14 points, and Jack Beach contributed 12 points.

The Falcons improved to 10-2 in league and 27-2 overall for the season.

San Diego Jewish Academy took its lumps against a challenging nonleague schedule, stumbling into Ocean League play having lost six of its previous seven games.

The Lions appear to have benefited from tough competition.

They completed an unbeaten league campaign, wrapping up their regular season with a 51-23 victory over Rock Academy.

Sam Deverett scored nine points to lead the Lions, and Cody Brown added eight points.

The victory followed a 62-33 league win against Del Lago Academy two days earlier, in which Aaron Perez scored 20 points to lead the Lions and Jordan Battaglia added 10 points.

The Lions improved to 6-0 in league and 12-12 overall for the season.

Cathedral Catholic defeated La Jolla 59-45 in a Western League finale for both teams on Feb. 20.

The victory followed a 46-39 league win against Lincoln three days earlier.

The Dons improved to 9-3 in league and 16-8 overall for the season.

La Costa Canyon concluded Avocado League West play unbeaten Feb. 20, as the Mavericks completed their regular season with an 81-48 victory over Carlsbad.

The victory followed a 63-39 league win against Vista on Feb. 17.

The Mavericks improved to 8-0 in league and 21-6 overall for the season.

Girls basketball:

La Costa Canyon put the finishing touches on a perfect Avocado League West season as the Mavericks defeated Carlsbad, 60-33, in a regular season finale for both teams on Feb. 20.

Taylor Pierce scored 19 points to lead the Mavericks and Rachel Dumiak added 17 points.

Jessica Curtis added 10 points.

The victory followed a 70-41 league win against Vista three days earlier in which Pierce scored 21 points to lead the Mavericks.

Curtis and Kelly Reed each added 13 points, and Cassie Amundson contributed 10 points.

The Mavericks improved to 8-0 in league and 22-5 overall for the season.

Cathedral Catholic completed a perfect Western League season as the Dons wrapped up their regular season with a 58-15 victory over La Jolla on Feb. 20.

Mia Gallo scored 16 points to lead the Dons and Sarah Mosser added 12 points.

The victory followed a 75-39 league win against Lincoln three days earlier in which Catherine Smedley scored 17 points to lead the Dons, and Mia Gallo added 14 points.

The Dons improved to 12-0 in league and 19-7 overall for the season.

Girls soccer:

Santa Fe Christian played to a 1-1 tie with Bishop’s in a Coastal League finale for both teams on Feb. 20, but it was no matter for the Eagles, who’d already clinched a league championship.

Avery VanHouten scored the only goal for the Eagles off an assist from Angela Gunness.

That followed a 3-2 loss to Escondido Charter two days earlier that snapped an 11-game Eagles winning streak.

Kristen Cole scored one goal and had one assist to lead the Eagles, and Hollie Pelland contributed one goal.

The Eagles fell to 9-1-2 in league and 15-2-2 overall for the season.

Boys soccer:

Cathedral Catholic secured a share of the Western League title as they defeated St. Augustine 3-1 in regular season finale for both teams on Feb. 19.

The Dons (5-2-1 in league, 14-4-5 overall) shared the title with Point Loma (5-2-1, 8-7-7).

Billy Garton scored one goal and had one assist to lead the Dons, and Justin Glaser and Daniel Mahjouri each added one goal.
