• If there was any rust after a bye week, Santa Fe Christian shook it off pretty quick.
The Eagles, who outscored their opponents 135-16 in three games going into their most recent off week, extended their winning streak to four games in a decisive 56-0 victory over Francis Parker in a Coastal League opener for both teams on Oct. 10.
Eagles quarterback Reece Walker led the rout, going 5-for-5 passing for 116 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Walker also rushed for another score.
Reece Walker rushed for 93 yards and one touchdown on three carries.
Demitri Washington led the Eagles defensively with eight tackles and two sacks.
Gavin Dill contributed eight tackles and Caleb Phillips added seven tackles.
The Eagles improved to 5-1 overall for the season.
• Cathedral Catholic defeated Damonte Rancho (Reno, Nev.) 49-19 in a nonleague game on Oct. 9.
Dons quarterback Tate Haynes threw for three touchdowns, including an 80-yard scoring pass to Hunter Allen.
Dons running back Adam Eastwood rushed for two touchdowns, one from the 30 and the other from the 5.
Jordan Genmark-Heath returned an interception 55 yards for the Dons at the end of a decisive second quarter in which they outscored their opponents 21-6 to take a 48-19 lead into the intermission.
The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 4-3.
• La Costa Canyon defeated El Camino 34-28 in an Avocado League West opener for both teams on Oct. 9.
Quarterback Tanner Clark threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another to lead the Mavericks.
LCC trailed 7-0 early when Clark scored on a 15-yard run to tie the game.
Cade Jackson returned a fumble he recovered inside the 1 for a touchdown to give the Mavericks a 14-7 lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Clark’s 64-yard scoring pass to Zach Goodkin made it 21-7.
Mavericks place kicker Jake Koehnke kicked two field goals. His 45-yarder late in the second quarter gave LCC a 24-14 lead going into the intermission.
Koehnke also kicked a 30-yard field goal late in the third quarter that made it 34-21.
The Mavericks improved their overall record for the season to 5-1.
• Torrey Pines lost to Carlsbad 35-14 in an Avocado League West opener on Oct. 9.
The Falcons fell to 1-5 overall for the season.
• Torrey Pines won the prestigious California Challenge at Alliant University, going 7-0 in the Championship Division of one of the state’s most prestigious tournaments.
The Falcons defeated Great Oak of Temecula 2-0 (25-20, 25-21) in the finals on Oct. 10.
Savvy Simo had eight kills to lead the Falcons, and Jillian Strockis added seven kills.
Brynn Chandler and Kiara McNulty had 12 and 11 assists, respectively.
Earlier in the day, the Falcons survived a tough challenge from Cathedral Catholic in the quarterfinals. The Falcons bounced back after losing the first game to defeat the Dons 2-1 (19-25, 25-15, 15-13).
Alexis Filippone had eight kills to lead the Falcons and Strockis added seven kills.
They rallied after losing the first game to Rancho Cucamonga in the semifinals for a 2-1 (24-26, 26-24, 15-11) victory.
Simo had 19 kills to lead the Falcons, and Strockis added 15 kills.
The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 19-1.
• San Dieguito Academy’s amazing season-opening winning streak is over.
The streak ended at 14 matches as the Mustangs lost to Torrey Pines 2-0 (25-12,25-14) in a California Challenge tournament match on Oct. 9.
The Mustangs went 2-3 in the tournament. They lost to longtime Orange County power Santa Margarita 2-0 (25-17, 25-15) later in the day, and to Canyon Crest Academy 2-0 (25-17, 25-9) the next day.
The Mustangs earlier in the week opened Avocado League play with two victories.
They defeated Escondido 3-2 (25-13, 25-19, 20-25, 22-25, 15-11) on Oct. 8.
Two days earlier they defeated Mission Hills 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-15).
The Mustangs improved to 2-0 in league and 16-3 overall for the season.
• La Costa Canyon went 5-2 at the California Challenge.
The Mavericks won their last three matches on Oct. 10, highlighted by a 2-1 (26-24, 19-25, 25-11) victory over Marymount of Los Angeles.
Morgan Lewis led the Mavericks with eight kills and Katie Lougeay added eight kills.
Setter Camryn Machado had 30 assists.
The Mavericks improved to 2-0 in league and 11-8 overall for the season.
• Torrey Pines extended its winning streak to seven games as the Falcons defeated Canyon Crest Academy 4-1 in a Palomar League opener for both teams on Oct. 9.
Gabriella “Gabi” Hernandez scored four goals to lead the Falcons and Ryan Poe and Samantha Cirino each added one goal.
The Falcons improved to 13-2 overall for the season.
